How to Burn Resin

Resin Incense is burned over hot charcoal tablets. Once you have your charcoal tablet lit, just spoon or drop a 1/4
teaspoon or so of resin, onto the hot tablet. The resin will begin to melt and smolder.
This should last for about 5-10 minutes, depending on how much resin you used. Be careful not to put too much resin on the tablet, or you may smother the charcoal tablet, and will need to begin again.

How To Use Charcoal
Self-Lighting Charcoal is necessary for burning resin incense.

Remove tablet from sealed roll and place charcoal, the round side down in abalone shell, censer, or other "fire proof" dish.  Light the edge of the tablet with a match or taper.  Hold the match to the edge of the charcoal until it begins to sparkle.  The sparkling will continue across the charcoal, otherwise use additional matches till it does. You may fan the tablet a little to get it good and hot.

Once the tablet is lit, you may take a small amount (1/4 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon) of burning herbs or resins and pour onto the lit cake of charcoal.  The incense will burn/melt and smoke releasing its scent into the air.  These will burn for several minutes and then you may add more.

If the ashes start to give off an unpleasant odor, take a metal spoon or knife and scrape off any residue before adding more material.  Tweezers work well for moving the tablet around INSIDE the censer.

The tablet should be left to burn out and cool in the censer.  To extinguish a tablet before it has fully cooled quench in a container of cold water.

PLEASE NOTE-When the tablet is lit, do not handle it as it WILL cause a burn.  Charcoal can burn at up to 1500 degrees F. and may burn up to an hour before burning out.   Do not dispose of the ash remains in a waste paper bin as this may cause a fire.  Do not hold the tablet in your hand when lighting or burning.  This product ignites instantly. ALWAYS make sure the tablet is extinguished, before disposing of it.
Burning Incense
As with all sources of naked flame or heat, there are a number of safety rules to keep in mind when burning incense.
1. Make certain that no part of burning incense comes into contact with wood, fabric or other flammable materials.
2. Never burn incense inside cupboards or with anything hanging (e.g. curtains) above the burning incense. The rising heat from the incense (along with the smoke) can cause discolorations and is potentially a fire hazard.
3. Incense burners can and do heat up; even soapstone burners become hot. Always be careful where you place the burner, as a hot burner can damage, warp or discolor wooden surfaces. Also take care not to move burners when in use, unless they have a chain or a handle.
4. Never leave burning incense unattended. If you have to leave while your incense is still burning, put it out by placing the stick or cone under running water. To extinguish a coil of incense, break off the glowing tip and discard it in water.
5. The glowing end of a burning incense stick, cone or coil is literally red hot and can cause a significant burn on skin and clothing. Always take care to keep skin, hair and eyes away from burning incense.
6. Ensure that ash from burning incense is dropping where it should - ideally, all ash should be contained. If the ash is falling outside its container you might need to reposition it or use a different burner. Incense ash can discolor furnishings and can be hot enough to be a fire hazard itself.
7. Burning loose incense over charcoal may pose a potential hazard according to some safety experts - always burn charcoal in a well ventilated environment to prevent build up of carbon monoxide in the atmosphere.
8. As with all naked flames keep burning incense away from pets and children. Never leave children or pets unattended with burning incense.
